How We Will -- and Will Not -- Use AI in Marketing and Communications
Grant Heston | August 12, 2024
A few months ago, I shared that leaders in our division were developing guidelines about how to use AI in our marketing and communications work At the time, many of my connections asked me to share the outcome of our efforts.
Earlier this month, we finished an AI document with lots of practical advice for our work with VCU and VCU Health. What I appreciate most about the outcome is our guiding principles, copied below.
Let me know what we got right, and what we can improve. And many, many thanks to the colleagues who participated in our work group and those who led the effort.
We ARE going to:
use AI in a way that aligns with our core values.
use AI to support the mission of VCU and VCU Health.
use AI to enhance creative and content development that aligns with the brand.
be a model for the use of AI in higher ed and healthcare communication.
be transparent about how we use AI.
fact check before using anything created by AI.
We ARE NOT going to:
rely on AI to replace human intelligence.
mislead, create bias or discrimination.
violate privacy or intellectual property.
plagiarize by not disclosing the use of AI.
use AI as a primary source.
